Our Branch Services

Contraception

This free service may be more convenient than booking an appointment with your GP surgery or at a sexual health clinic. You can choose a time that suits you, and the service is free and confidential. Your pharmacist can give the same expert advice about selecting and managing your contraceptive pills as your GP surgery. You can talk to them one-to-one in a private consultation room.

Emergency Contraception

Browns Pharmacy offer a private, confidential and anonymous consultation. Our pharmacist will advise you on the most appropriate emergency contraceptive option and offer any help or support that you may need. Emergency Hormonal Contraception, better known as the ‘morning after pill’, is one of the options used to prevent pregnancy when other methods of contraception, such as condoms, have failed.

  • Emergency contraception is most effective the sooner it is taken, however, it can be taken up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex.

  • Browns Pharmacy can provide emergency contraception free of charge through local NHS Services. This free service is dependent upon location and pharmacist availability.

  • This is a ‘Walk in service’ with no appointment necessary

Blood Pressure Checks

This service is FREE of charge and no appointment is necessary. Affecting seven million people and a leading cause of premature death in England, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a general term for conditions affecting the heart or blood vessels.

£9 billion per year is spent by the NHS on CVD and related conditions. The biggest risk factor for CVD and one of the top five risk factors for all premature death and disability in England is HYPERTENSION, more commonly known as high blood pressure.

High blood pressure is a common condition affecting roughly one in three UK adults, however, half of people with high blood pressure are not diagnosed or receiving treatment. As there are no symptoms, the only way to know if you have a high blood pressure is to get it measured.

Our pharmacies deliver quick and easy checks to help monitor your blood pressure. We will take a blood pressure reading in the privacy of a consultation room. The result will be given by the machine there and then and a pharmacist will go through the information with you about what that reading means and provide simple advice or a referral if the result is outside the normal range.

A raised blood pressure reading can indicate a serious risk to your health.
